Ways To Build Website Traffic Over Time

Building traffic is key to eventually getting leads to your business so that you can begin to make sales and get customers through the door. There are many ways one can build traffic, but this article will focus on ways that involve you, the owner, taking an active role and doing so in a fashion that doesn't involve spending a lot of money.

#1: Make Sure You Are Writing On A Consistent Basis And Write Quality Articles That People Will Read

If you've run your own online-only business for a long time, then you probably understand the importance of article writing. You need to make sure that you are writing articles on a consistent basis so that you can keep your presence fresh. It is certainly all right to take time off from writing for whatever reason, but it is important not to allow yourself to get into the habit of not writing. As you continue to write more and more, you will start to see the number of people visiting your site increase.

Keep in mind that these need to be quality articles. Everyone's definition of quality differs and this is a subject that could take more than one article to describe, but nonetheless, the articles need to be of high quality. If you are producing articles that do not promote original points of view or articles that aren't informing the audience, your readers will eventually see this and that could work against you.

#2: Make Sure You Have A Twitter Account And That You Are Active On It

Social media is a must if you want to increase views to your site, but Twitter is the one social media platform that you must have if you must choose only one. This is because of how many people and businesses use Twitter on a daily basis. If you can be active on Twitter on a daily basis and build relationships with those you follow as well as those who follow you, you can gain a significant amount of traffic to your website. But this requires patience and a solid understanding of how to use Twitter and who to go after.

#3: Update "Expired" Content On Your Website

Historical refreshes of content is a good thing, especially if some of your content has expired. Note, this does not mean re-doing your content; simply refreshing it to bring it current if it isn't already evergreen content. Look at ways you can update outdated content on your site to drive more traffic through visibility on search engines like Google.

#4: Make Sure Your Site is Responsive

The days when internet browsing was done exclusively on desktop PCs are long gone. Today, more people than ever before are using mobile devices to access the web, and if you force your visitors to pinch and scroll their way around your site, you’re basically telling them to go elsewhere. Even if you have a basic website, you still need to ensure that it is accessible and comfortably viewable across a range of devices, including smaller smartphones.

#5: Make Sure Your Site is Fast

Ever found yourself waiting thirty seconds for a webpage to load? Me neither. If your site takes forever to load, your bounce rate will be sky-high. Make sure that your pages are as technically optimized as possible, including image file sizes, page structure and the functionality of third-party plugins. The faster your site loads, the better.

#6: Research the Competition

If you do not check out what your competitors are up to, you’re at a huge disadvantage. In this way, you aggregate the social performance of specific sites and content to understand the at-a-glance view of what topics are resonating with readers and, most importantly, making the rounds on social media. Find out what people are reading (and talking about), and emulate that kind of content to bring traffic to your website.
